British Esports (the UK’s national esports federation) has announced a identity refresh for its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), initiative, Women in Esports. It also included a new Manifesto, Key Pillars, and a new Manifesto. This identity refresh is in advance of International Women’s Day, March 8.
Women in Esports is represented by a number of talented individuals, including Alice Leaman, Bryony Hope Green, and who received an MCV Women in Games Award in Education Impact and Journalism Impact. This initiative aims to make esports more inclusive and diverse. The initiative was founded in 2019 and has hosted numerous tournaments, community initiatives, educational content, and other events to promote and allow women and marginalised groups to take part in esports at all levels.
The identity refresh is complemented by the new Women in Esports Manifesto (and Key Pillars) that demonstrate the organization’s commitment to increasing esports representation. These are in line with British Esports’ wider efforts in this area.
The new Manifesto reads: “We are women in esports and we are proud that we have led the charge for positive change in the industry.” All individuals who share our vision and values are welcome to join us on this journey. We can make esports more inclusive and equitable by working together.
Women in Esports also created four Key Pillars that will be used in conjunction with its Manifesto. These pillars not only identify the most important aspects of the industry that need attention in terms of representation but also serve to guide the initiative’s efforts moving ahead.
This campaign will also raise donations for Womankind Worldwide. It is a global organisation that promotes women’s rights and works in partnership with feminist movements to improve the lives of girls and women.
“We are proud to share our manifesto and key pillars for Women in Esports, in keeping with our refreshed identity for 2023. This year we plan to expand the initiative, starting with our International Women’s Day celebrations. These key pillars are and manifesto reflect the aims and will guide us in cultivating a more equitable space within the esports sector,” Billie Purdie (Women in Esports Manager, British Esports) said.
