The German Computer Game Awards 2024, presented in Munich this evening, were a celebration of high-quality games, entertainment, and well-known personalities within the games industry, as well as the cultural, social, and political realms. At Eisbach Studios, Munich, a large number of guests celebrated in person the best German games and the creative minds that created them. Katrin Bauerfeind, Uke Bosse and hundreds of thousands of other viewers watched the award show live. Cash prizes totaled 800,000 Euros. ROCKFISH’s “EVERSPACE 2”, a game developed by ROCKFISH, was named ‘Best German Game. Pixel Maniacs, a Nuremberg-based studio, won the ‘Studio of the year’ award. The company has been recognized for its innovative marketing and multifaceted involvement with the gaming industry, including its party racing game, “Can’t Drive This”. The Special Jury Prize was given to “Gaming ohne Grenzen”, an initiative which allows young people with disabilities participate in the game culture. This is done by testing the accessibility of different games and the capabilities of certain technologies in order to overcome barriers. Maurice Weber, voted ‘Player Of The Year’ by both the community and jury, was the winner of this award. The Twitch streamer and games editor regularly analyzes current developments in the gaming industry. He takes a critical view of them and formulates a clear position for more diversity in games and in society.
The German Computer Game Awards honor the best German-produced video games of the year. They are organized by the German Federal Government represented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and by game – the German Games Industry Association.
Felix Falk is the Managing Director at game. Even in these challenging times for German companies in the industry, German game companies have created successful and high-quality games that deserve to be honoured at the DCP. The federal funding for games helped around half of the outstanding games to be developed. It is yet another example of the power we can harness when the policy framework in Germany for game development provides truly predictable and competitive international conditions. This allows games from Germany shine brighter all over the globe and achieve greater success both on the national and international stage. This must be our goal.
